Handmade skirt

There are so many great designers in our time… More than even before… And so many options to buy. It is very clear if you go out for shopping or just look at the offers in internet. At least I find it so as a (unfortunately) shopaholic about which I would like to write in my future articles. However not just buying but also designing and creating my own clothes is also a passion for me… Today I would like to share with you a simple model. If you can’t find the designs you look for or if you like designing you can sew a very simple skirt at home and then decorate it as you wish.

Here are the necessary materials...

Copy paper, pencil, eraser (in case you need), scissors, pins and sewing thread...

And of course fabric and ornaments of your choice. Plus a sewing machine.

The easiest way is to get a skirt you have already and put the copy paper over it to get a pattern. Or you can just draw yourself by measuring your waist, hips and the length you want. If you draw yourself, you need just two patterns. One back and one front size. Both in half of the measurement.

First measure the waist. If it is 70 centimeters you should draw 35 (the half of each measurement) and let's say you have a hip of 90 centimeters, you should draw 45 horizontally. And when you decide about the length, just draw them over the paper and then cut.

If you wish to have a little bit larger skirt like me, you can cut the pattern vertically and stick them together as above.

After you have the patterns, pin them to the fabric. Add 0,50 centimeter over waist, 2 centimeters on the right and lefts sides and 4 centimeters below as seam allowance. However it is important to cut the front part as one. So you should put the pattern like that.

The back should be in two parts to add buttons or zip.

When you have the cuts ready, you need to sew the parts together. You sew the zip by hand.

Add the ornaments as you wish. I added black lace.

  And the skirt is ready.

I have to admit it takes a little bit time but it is fun to wear something you have created!!!
